Firing Service Terms & Conditions
To ensure the safety of your work, others’ work, our kilns, and kiln furniture, please carefully review and adhere to the following guidelines:
We Will NOT Fire:
Wet Work: All pieces must be 100% dry before being placed on the firing shelves. Moisture in the kiln can cause rust, damage bricks, and result in explosions due to expansion during heating. Cool-to-the-touch pieces still contain moisture.
Work Containing Foreign Materials: Items with paper, metal, wood, or other non-clay materials can damage kiln elements during burnout.
Glazed Greenware: Glazing raw clay is hazardous to both the work and the kiln.
Glazed Bases: Glazed bases stick to kiln shelves and cannot be fired.
Feeney’s Buff Raku Trachyte: This clay will only be fired if accompanied by a clay setter.
Solid or Extremely Thick Pieces: Any piece thicker than 5 cm is prone to explosion.
Hazardous Work: Any work deemed unsafe for staff or kilns will not be fired.
Homemade Clay: Only commercially manufactured clays are accepted.
Preparation for Firing:
Beads or Small Pieces: These must be placed on a bead rack (supplied by you) or small shelf before being added to the firing shelves. You are responsible for loading these items onto their racks yourself.

Please DO:
Vent Hollow Enclosed Pieces: Hollow pieces must have a hole to prevent explosions.
Label Your Work: Write your name or a unique mark to identify your pieces.
Take Your Boxes with You: Left-behind boxes will be recycled due to limited shelf space.
Bring Packing Materials: We do not supply boxes or packing materials for pickup.

Damage Policy:
Kiln Shelf Damage: Overflowing glaze will incur a $15 cleaning fee per damaged shelf.
Replacement Costs: If your work ruins a kiln shelf, you will be charged for its replacement. ($60 - 150)
Kiln Damage: Severe damage to kiln interiors caused by your work will result in a fine determined by the manager based on repair costs.

Additional Notes:
Our firing service accommodates a wide range of ceramic work but is not designed for production purposes. All kilns are electric and operate under oxidized atmospheres. While we take every precaution to ensure successful firings, ceramics is an unpredictable medium, and mishaps may occur. Ample testing and planning are strongly recommended to ensure project completion. We are not responsible for any breakages or mishaps.
